Gahahe Station is located in the northern province of Kayanza, Burundi – a land synonymous with great coffee tradition. The station is a collection site for 600 local farmers who grow mostly bourbon varietals, introduced to the area in the 1930s by Catholic monks traveling from the island of Reunion. Benefitting from a Burundi coffee investment group, Gahahe has seen upgrades to the maintenance and management of their equipment and processes. As a result, they have consistently garnered top placement in the Burundi Cup of Excellence year after year.
In the cup, we find sweet, sticky, fruited notes of berry and plum with a spiced cinnamon finish.
This coffee is part of the Farm Gate program. Farm Gate prices are negotiated directly with the farmers at a rate 50% over Fair Trade, but often 100%+ more than Fair Trade minimums.
